The play takes place over two evenings in Wintercourse Frequent – a small Somerset village, in June and July 1952. King George died the previous February, and the Coronation of Elizabeth II is planned for June the following year. To ensure that the people of Wintercourse Frequent are prepared for this momentous event, the local vicar – Jeremy Tongue- has called a meeting of significant villagers to discuss plans regarding suitable activities for the celebratory weekend.
