The Monkton Players were originally formed in 1949 and performed their first ever production – The Proposal by Anton Chekhov – in the old Victory Village Hall (which once stood where the current village hall car park is today). Sadly, the group disbanded in the 1960s, and the village was left without a drama group for many years.
That changed in 1980, when The Monkton Players were joyfully reformed – and we’ve been going strong ever since!
Since then, we’ve performed over 80 comedies, including a standout performance of Outside Edge for our 10th anniversary, which ran for a week at The Brewhouse – a rare feat for a village hall group.
We now put on two productions each year – one in March and another in October.
As soon as one curtain falls, we’re already on the hunt for our next comedy!
🎬 Rehearsals & Socials
We rehearse every Tuesday at 8:00pm in West Monkton Village Hall, and as the show approaches, we also hold extra rehearsals on a Thursday at 7:30pm
And it’s not all scripts and stage lights – we’re a sociable bunch too! Most Tuesdays after rehearsal, we head to The Merry Monk pub at 9:00pm for a catch-up and a well-earned drink.
